Purpose: To demonstrate pulmonary ventilation (breathing in and out) and the pressure changes inside the chest cavity. [1]

Mechanism: Pulling down on a diaphragm balloon increases volume in the bottle, lowering air pressure and causing the inner lung balloons to inflate (inhalation). Pushing the diaphragm up increases pressure, causing the balloons to deflate (exhalation).
